Pelham Strong held the first Walk for Christ on March 11, 2023. Approximately 175 people participated in the walk, and several Pelham-area churches were involved.
The idea for Walk for Christ came from Pelham Strong co-founders Chad Leverett and Rick Wash, who wanted to bring the community together for one purpose – to honor Christ. They wanted to show that more emphasis should be placed on God and Jesus Christ in our homes and communities.
The event was held at Pelham City Park and featured a 1-mile candle-lit fun walk. Before the walk, activities, games, and train rides were offered for children and adults. In 2023 all of the money raised went to the nonprofit Forward to Freedom of Alabama.
In 2024 Pelham Strong expanded this event to include a 5K and home run derby competitions along with the 1-mile fun run/walk for Christ. Pelham Strong partnered with Pelham Parks & Recreation to bring a hitting competition to the 6U division as well as home run derby competitions to the 8U, 10U, and 12U divisions. Several of the dads/coaches had the opportunity to compete in the 18+ competition. The Pelham Police Department and Pelham Fire Department also squared off in a head to head homerun derby competition, and the Police Department came out on top. Pelham Strong now partners with the nonprofit Liberty Learning Foundation, and all of the money raised benefits that organization. Liberty Learning is a non-profit organization facilitating active civics and character programs in K-12 classrooms and orchestrating immersive events that empower schools, parents, local leaders, and businesses to take ownership of the future of the community and country.
