Pelham Strong held the first Walk for Christ on March 11, 2023. Approximately 175 people participated in the walk, with several Pelham-area churches involved.

The idea for Walk for Christ came from Pelham Strong co-founders Chad Leverett and Rick Wash, who wanted to bring the community together for one purpose: to honor Christ. Their vision was to encourage a greater emphasis on God and Jesus Christ in our homes and throughout the community.

The inaugural event was held at Pelham City Park and featured a 1-mile candlelit fun walk. Prior to the walk, families enjoyed activities, games, and train rides for children and adults. In 2023, all funds raised were donated to the nonprofit Forward to Freedom of Alabama.

In 2024, Pelham Strong expanded the event to include a 5K race and home run derby competitions in addition to the 1-mile fun run/walk for Christ. Partnering with Pelham Parks & Recreation, the event introduced a hitting competition for the 6U division and home run derby competitions for the 8U, 10U, and 12U divisions. Several dads and coaches also participated in an 18+ competition. The Pelham Police Department and Pelham Fire Department faced off in a head-to-head home run derby, with the Police Department claiming bragging rights. In both 2024 and 2025, all event proceeds were donated to the Liberty Learning Foundation.

In 2026 this event had a name change from Walk for Christ to Pelham Strong Walk & 5K.  Beginning in 2026 and beyond, Pelham Strong will donate 100% of the event proceeds to the Pelham Parks & Recreation Foundation. These funds will be used to assist local families with recreation sports registration costs and equipment needs, ensuring more children have the opportunity to participate in youth sports regardless of financial barriers.
